Perry Fewell was born on September 7, 1962. He is an American football coach. Currently, he works for the National Football League (NFL). He is the senior vice president of officiating administration.
Before this role, he was a coach for many NFL teams. He worked as a defensive backs coach or defensive coordinator from 1998 to 2019. He was also a temporary (interim) head coach for the Buffalo Bills in 2009. Later, he was an interim head coach for the Carolina Panthers in 2019. Fewell helped the New York Giants win Super Bowl XLVI. He was their defensive coordinator for five seasons.

Early Life and High School Football
Perry Fewell grew up in Belmont, North Carolina. He went to South Point High School. In 1979, he was part of the team that won the 3-A state football championship.
College Football Career
Fewell then attended Lenoir-Rhyne College. He was a great football player there. He played football for all four years of college. In his final year, he was named the team's Most Improved Player.
Perry Fewell's Coaching Journey
Starting in College Football
Fewell began his coaching career in college. He coached for 13 years, from 1985 to 1997. During this time, he was an assistant coach at several universities. These included North Carolina, Army, Kent State, and Vanderbilt.
Coaching in the NFL
Fewell joined the NFL in 1998. His first NFL job was with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was their defensive backs coach until 2002. In 1999, the Jaguars' pass defense was one of the best in the NFL. Two years later, they allowed very few touchdown passes.
St. Louis Rams Coaching Role
In 2003, Fewell moved to the St. Louis Rams. He worked as the secondary coach for two seasons.
Chicago Bears Defensive Backs Coach
From 2004 to 2005, Fewell coached with the Chicago Bears. He was their defensive backs coach.
Buffalo Bills Defensive Coordinator
Fewell became the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills in 2006. In 2008, his defense was very strong. They ranked high in stopping opposing teams. They also allowed very few passing touchdowns that year.
In 2009, the Bills' head coach was let go. Fewell then became the team's temporary (interim) head coach. He led the team for the last seven games of the season.
New York Giants and a Super Bowl Win
On January 14, 2010, Fewell became the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants. He worked under head coach Tom Coughlin. Fewell had worked with Coach Coughlin before.
On February 5, 2012, the Giants played in Super Bowl XLVI. They beat the New England Patriots 21-17. This win made Fewell a Super Bowl champion! He stayed with the Giants for five years.
Washington Redskins Coaching
After his time with the Giants, Fewell coached for the Washington Redskins. He was their defensive backs coach for two seasons.
Return to Jacksonville Jaguars
Later, Tom Coughlin returned to the Jacksonville Jaguars. He became a top executive for the team. Fewell then rejoined the Jaguars as the defensive backs coach.
Carolina Panthers Interim Head Coach
On January 15, 2019, Fewell became the secondary coach for the Carolina Panthers. In December 2019, the head coach was dismissed. Fewell was then named the temporary (interim) head coach. He led the team for the last four games of that season.
Working for the NFL Office
In 2020, Perry Fewell started a new role. He joined the NFL's main office. He is now the senior vice president of officiating administration. This means he helps manage how games are officiated.
