Peter Nicholas Boulware (born December 18, 1974) is a former American football player. He was a linebacker for nine seasons with the Baltimore Ravens in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Florida State Seminoles. He was recognized as one of the best college players in the nation.
The Baltimore Ravens chose him in the first round of the 1997 NFL draft. He played his entire professional career with the Ravens. After his football career, Boulware became involved in politics. He ran for a seat in the Florida House of Representatives in 2008.

Early Life and High School Football
Peter Boulware was born in Columbia, South Carolina. He attended Heathwood Hall Episcopal School before graduating from Spring Valley High School. While at Spring Valley, he was an all-state player in 1992.
During his high school career, he made 132 tackles and 14 sacks. He also blocked two punts. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution named him one of the top 50 athletes in the country. The Dallas Morning News also listed him among the nation's top 100 athletes.
College Football Career
Boulware received a scholarship to attend Florida State University. He played for coach Bobby Bowden's Seminoles from 1993 to 1996. He took a "redshirt" year in 1993, meaning he practiced but did not play in games.
In 1994, his first year playing, he had 37 tackles and five sacks. One of his sacks was against Florida Gators quarterback Danny Wuerffel. As a sophomore, Boulware led the ACC with ten sacks. He was also named honorable mention All-ACC.
During his junior year, Boulware had an amazing season. He set a school record with 19 sacks. He also forced seven fumbles and recovered three. He was named a first-team All-American and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. He was also recognized as the National Defensive Player of the Year by Football News. His 19 sacks were the most in the entire nation that year. After this successful season, Boulware decided to enter the 1997 NFL draft. He graduated from Florida State on April 26, 1997, with a degree in management information systems.
Professional Football Career
The Baltimore Ravens picked Peter Boulware as the fourth overall player in the 1997 NFL draft. In his first year, 1997, Boulware had 66 tackles and 11.5 sacks. He earned the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award from the Associated Press.
Boulware played for the Ravens for eight years. He was chosen for the Pro Bowl four times. He became the Ravens' all-time leader in sacks, a record he held until 2011. Boulware was also a key player on the Baltimore Ravens team that won the Super Bowl in the 2000 NFL season.
The Ravens released Boulware before the 2005 season but then re-signed him with a lower salary. Before the 2006 season, the Ravens released him again due to injuries. He then decided to retire from football. Boulware finished his career with 493 tackles and 70 sacks. He also forced 14 fumbles and recovered five.
Life After Football
Peter Boulware is married and has five children. He owns and manages Toyota car dealerships in Tallahassee, Florida, and Columbia, South Carolina. He has even appeared in commercials for his dealerships.
He also started a private school called Community Leadership Academy. His younger brother, Michael Boulware, also played in the NFL.
Honors and Recognition
Peter Boulware was honored by the Baltimore Ravens on November 5, 2006. He was officially inducted into the Baltimore Ravens' Ring of Honor. This special ceremony took place during halftime of a game between the Ravens and the Bengals.
Involvement in Politics
On September 10, 2007, Peter Boulware announced he would run for a seat in the Florida state house. He ran as a member of the Republican Party. On August 26, 2008, Boulware won the Republican primary election with a large majority of the votes.
However, in the general election on November 4, 2008, Democrat Michelle Rehwinkle Vasilinda won the open Florida House seat. She beat Boulware by a close margin of 430 votes. After the election, Governor Charlie Crist appointed Boulware to the Florida Board of Education.
