Peter Nicholas Boulware (born December 18, 1974) is a former American football player. He played as a linebacker for nine seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. This team is part of the National Football League (NFL).
Before playing professionally, Peter Boulware was a star college football player. He played for the Florida State Seminoles. There, he was recognized as a top player, earning the title of consensus All-American.
The Baltimore Ravens chose him in the first round of the 1997 NFL draft. He spent his entire professional career playing for the Ravens. After his football career, Boulware ran for a political office. He was a Republican candidate for the Florida House of Representatives in 2008.

Peter Boulware's Early Life
Peter Boulware was born in Columbia, South Carolina. He attended Heathwood Hall Episcopal School and then Spring Valley High School. He was a standout football player in high school.
In 1992, he was named an all-state player for Spring Valley High. He made 132 tackles and 14 sacks. He also blocked two punts. Because of his skills, he was named one of the top 50 athletes in the nation. This honor came from The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The Dallas Morning News also listed him as one of the top 100 athletes.
College Football Career
Peter Boulware received a sports scholarship to attend Florida State University. He played for the Seminoles from 1993 to 1996. Their coach was Bobby Bowden.
In 1993, he took a "redshirt" year. This means he practiced with the team but did not play in games. This allowed him to gain experience without using a year of his college eligibility. In 1994, as a redshirt freshman, he made 37 tackles. He also had five sacks and five tackles for loss. One of his sacks was against Florida Gators quarterback Danny Wuerffel in the 1995 Sugar Bowl.
As a sophomore, Boulware had 46 tackles. He led the ACC with ten sacks. He also had 18 tackles for losses, ranking second in the ACC. He was recognized as an honorable mention All-ACC player.
In his junior year, Boulware had an amazing season. He made 68 tackles and set a school record with 19 sacks. He also had 20 tackles for losses, seven forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries. He was named a first-team All-American and All-ACC player. He was also the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. Football News named him the National Defensive Player of the Year. His 19 sacks were the most in the entire nation that year.
After his junior year, Boulware decided to enter the 1997 NFL draft. He graduated from Florida State on April 26, 1997. He earned a degree in management information systems.
Professional Football Career
The Baltimore Ravens picked Peter Boulware in the first round of the 1997 NFL draft. He was the fourth player chosen overall. In his first year, 1997, Boulware made 66 tackles and 11.5 sacks. He also forced one fumble. For his excellent play, he received the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
He played for the Ravens for eight seasons. During his time, he was chosen for the Pro Bowl four times. He also became the Ravens' all-time leader in sacks. He held this record until Terrell Suggs passed him in 2011.
Peter Boulware was a key player on the Baltimore Ravens team that won the Super Bowl in the 2000 NFL season. The Ravens released him before the 2005 season. However, they later re-signed him with a lower salary. Before the 2006 season, the Ravens released him again due to injuries. At that point, he decided to retire from football.

He also started a private school called Community Leadership Academy. His younger brother, Michael Boulware, also played in the NFL.
Honors and Achievements
Peter Boulware was honored by the Baltimore Ravens. He was officially inducted into the Baltimore Ravens' Ring of Honor. This special ceremony happened during halftime of a game on November 5, 2006. The Ravens were playing against the Bengals that day.
Peter Boulware in Politics
On September 10, 2007, Peter Boulware announced he would run for office. He sought a seat in the Florida state house as a member of the Republican Party. On August 26, 2008, Boulware won the Republican primary election. He received 84.1 percent of the votes.
However, in the general election on November 4, Democrat Michelle Rehwinkle Vasilinda won the open Florida House seat. She beat Boulware by 430 votes. After the election, Governor Charlie Crist appointed Boulware to the Florida Board of Education.
Boulware also supported Mike Huckabee in the 2008 presidential election primary. He contributed the maximum amount of money allowed by law to Huckabee's campaign.
