What is Rock Goldenrod?
The only known type of plant in the Petradoria group is called Petradoria pumila. It has a cool common name: rock goldenrod. This name fits perfectly because it often grows in rocky places and has bright yellow flowers, just like gold!
Where Does It Grow?
Rock goldenrod is native to the western United States. You can find it growing in many states, including California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and Idaho. It loves sunny, open areas, especially those with rocky or sandy soil.
What Does It Look Like?
This plant is quite small, usually growing close to the ground. When it blooms, it produces many tiny, bright yellow flowers. These flowers often grow in clusters, making whole areas look like they are covered in a golden carpet. It's a beautiful sight to see, especially in the late summer and fall.
Different Kinds of Rock Goldenrod
Even though there's only one main species of Petradoria, there are a couple of different types within it. These are called subspecies. They are very similar but might have small differences in where they grow or how they look.
