Piara Waters is a growing suburb located in the southeastern part of Perth, Western Australia. It is part of the City of Armadale. This area used to be part of Forrestdale before it became its own suburb in 2007. Piara Waters is about 20 kilometers (12 miles) south-east of Perth's city center.

About Piara Waters' Growth

Piara Waters has changed a lot over the years. It used to have small farms, but now it has many homes. Because of this, the number of people living here has grown a lot. In 2006, there were fewer than 100 people. By 2021, there were over 14,000 residents!

To support this growth, new places for the community have been built. Piara Waters Primary School opened in 2012 for younger students. Piara Waters Senior High School welcomed its first students in 2023. It will add more grades each year until it teaches students up to Year 12 in 2028.

A new shopping center, the Piara Waters Shopping Centre, also opened in late 2023. This gives local residents more places to shop and meet. For older adults, a new living community is also being developed, offering a relaxed lifestyle.

Piara Waters' History

The name Piara Waters comes from Peter Henry Waters. He was known for his work in supporting the relationship between humans and nature.

A big part of the suburb is the Piara Nature Reserve. This natural area is important for local wildlife. In 2012, a bushfire happened in the reserve. Firefighters worked hard to stop the fire from reaching nearby homes.

In September 2012, a very large party took place in a vacant building. Many young people attended, and the gathering became out of control. Police had to step in to manage the situation and keep everyone safe. This event was even reported on national news.

More recently, in November 2023, a playground in the area was destroyed by a bushfire. This was a sad event for the community.
