Treeby's Story: How the Suburb Grew
Treeby used to be a rural area. It was part of Banjup until 2016. That year, it became its own suburb. This happened when the northern part of Banjup, which was north of Armadale Road, was separated.
The land where Treeby is now was originally home to the Beeliar Whadjuk people. They are part of the Noongar nation. The suburb is named after Joseph and Emma Treeby. They were early settlers who came to the area. The Treeby family moved from South Australia. They planned to grow apple orchards. Instead, they started a large market garden. They grew mostly cauliflower and cabbage on over 14 hectares (35 acres) of land.
In recent years, an area that was once used for sand mining has been developed. It is now a new housing area called Calleya. A company named Stockland has built many homes there. They offer different types of houses, like terraces and townhomes. Stockland has sold more than 1,100 homes in Treeby. There is also another new housing area called Kara. It is located in the western part of the suburb.
