History of Pilot Grove
Pilot Grove was officially planned and laid out in 1873. The city got its name from a special group of old hickory trees. These trees were so tall and noticeable that they helped travelers find their way. They acted like a "pilot" or guide for people exploring the area.
Where is Pilot Grove Located?
Pilot Grove is situated along Missouri Route 135. It is also just four miles south of the major highway, I-70. The city is about eleven miles southwest of Boonville, Missouri, another nearby town. A small stream called the Petite Saline Creek flows about two miles east of Pilot Grove.
The city covers a total area of about 0.42 square miles (1.09 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water inside the city limits.
