They are known for having "Exceptional Value" or "High-quality-Cold Water Fishery" status. This means the water is great for fish and other wildlife. Only the lowest part of Pine Creek, close to Oil Creek, is simply called a cold-water fishery.

Pine Creek starts in Warren County, Pennsylvania. It begins near a place called Excelsior Corners. This spot is on a high area between Caldwell Creek and Tidioute Creek.
From there, Pine Creek flows towards the southwest. It continues until it meets Oil Creek. This meeting point is just southeast of Titusville, Pennsylvania, in Crawford County, Pennsylvania.
