Pirque (pronounced "PEER-keh") is a special area in Chile. It's called a commune, which is like a local district or town. Pirque is located in the Cordillera Province, which is part of the Santiago Metropolitan Region. It's about 2.8 kilometers southeast of Puente Alto and 21.3 kilometers south-southeast of the big city of Santiago.
Pirque sits at the base of the Cajón del Maipo, a beautiful valley. It's also famous for being home to the Concha y Toro wine company, which makes delicious wines!

Who Lives in Pirque?
Every few years, countries count their people in something called a census. According to the 2002 census, Pirque had 16,565 people living there. This included 8,384 men and 8,181 women.
Pirque covers an area of about 445.3 square kilometers. Most people, about 9,651 (58.3%), lived in urban areas, which are like towns or cities. The rest, 6,914 people (41.7%), lived in rural areas, which are more like the countryside. Between 1992 and 2002, Pirque's population grew quite a bit, by 45.7%!
