The Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department started in 1952. It has always been run by volunteers. This means people give their time to help keep the community safe from fires.

History of the Fire Department

The first fire trucks were kept in the barn of Theodore Bates, one of the founding members. In the 1960s, the first fire station was built. It was located in the hamlet on County Road 16. To help people who lived further away, a second fire station was built near the Plymouth Reservoir. In 1999, the Plymouth Volunteer Fire Department moved into a new, central fire station. This station is on State Highway 23, where it is still located today.
