Rakim Hasheem Allen (born December 9, 1991 – died September 12, 2022), known as PnB Rock, was an American rapper and singer. He became very popular in 2016 with his song "Selfish". This song reached number 51 on the US Billboard Hot 100 music chart. He was also featured on the song "Cross Me" by Ed Sheeran, along with Chance the Rapper. PnB Rock also sang uncredited vocals on XXXTentacion's popular song "Changes". That song made it into the top 20 on the same chart.

He released two studio albums: Catch These Vibes in 2017 and TrapStar Turnt PopStar in 2019. His second album reached the top five on the Billboard 200 chart. PnB Rock was also chosen for the 2017 XXL Freshman Class, which highlights new and exciting artists.

On September 12, 2022, PnB Rock passed away in Los Angeles during a robbery.

Early life

Rakim Hasheem Allen was born on December 9, 1991. He grew up in the Germantown area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His family followed the Muslim faith. PnB Rock's father passed away when he was only three years old. His mother mainly raised him. During his teenage years, he lived in Northeast Philadelphia. He enjoyed listening to artists like rapper 2Pac and the R&B group Jodeci.

When he was 13, Allen faced some challenges and was sent to a youth program. At 19, he spent some time in prison. After being released, he was without a home for a short period. He never finished high school. Later, he chose the stage name PnB Rock. This name honored Pastorius and Baynton, a street corner in his old neighborhood in Germantown.

Career

PnB Rock started his music career on June 24, 2014. He released his first mixtape, Real N*gga Bangaz. He wrote many of the songs for this mixtape while he was in prison. In 2015, PnB Rock signed a record deal with Atlantic Records. His first project with Atlantic was his third mixtape, RnB3. In June 2016, he released the song "Selfish". This song became very popular, reaching number 51 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. In October 2016, Rolling Stone magazine recognized him. They included him in their list of "10 New Artists You Need to Know."

On January 10, 2017, he released his second retail mixtape album, GTTM: Goin Thru the Motions. This album was released through Atlantic Records and Empire Distribution. It debuted at number 28 on the US Billboard 200 chart. In April 2017, he contributed to the soundtrack for the movie The Fate of the Furious. He had two songs on it: "Gang Up" with Young Thug, 2 Chainz, and Wiz Khalifa, and "Horses" with Kodak Black and A Boogie wit da Hoodie. In June 2017, XXL magazine named PnB Rock as one of the ten members of their "2017 Freshman Class." This group also included artists like A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Playboi Carti, and XXXTentacion.

His first studio album, TrapStar Turnt PopStar, came out in May 2019. PnB Rock and Chance the Rapper were featured on Ed Sheeran's song "Cross Me". This song was part of Sheeran's album No.6 Collaborations Project. In January 2020, PnB Rock released the song "Ordinary" which featured the late rapper Pop Smoke. In January 2021, he was featured on a song called "Rose Gold" by the late rapper King Von. In February 2022, PnB Rock released the mixtape SoundCloud Daze. It featured many artists like Pasto Flocco, Iayze, and Yung Fazo. He released his last single, "Luv Me Again", on September 2, 2022.

Death

On September 12, 2022, PnB Rock was at Roscoe's House of Chicken 'N Waffles in South Los Angeles. During a robbery, he was shot and sadly passed away. He bravely protected his partner, with whom he had a two-year-old daughter. He pushed her under a table to keep her safe.

The LAPD investigated the incident. They later announced that some people had been arrested in connection with the event.
