Carter gets inspiration from many artists. These include ASAP Rocky, Kanye West, Jay-Z, MF Doom, Slayer, the Sex Pistols, and Kiss. He has a "rock star" personality. He is known for his fun, strong, and melodic music style.

Almost all of Carter's raps are freestyled. This was inspired by Lil Wayne. Carter's music focuses more on the overall feeling than on complex lyrics. Critics say his rapping is often "simple and repeated." It focuses more on the flow and catchy phrases.

Briana Younger from Pitchfork said that "Carti's music is less about lyricism and more about atmosphere." She added that "whatever Carti lacks in substance he makes up in sheer audacity."

Carter's music is often called "mumble rap." This style focuses on catchy parts and great beats. His early songs had a carefree and youthful vibe. They usually avoided serious topics.

As his music grew, he started using more experimental sounds. This was especially true in his later projects. Songs like "Earfquake" and "Pissy Pamper" show his use of different vocal styles. This includes his special "baby voice." This voice uses high pitches and fast rhythms. It makes his music sound playful yet edgy.

In 2020, Carter released Whole Lotta Red. This album showed even more of his sound experiments. It mixed punk and metal influences with his hip-hop roots. This album was a big change in his music direction. It allowed him to explore more intense themes.

Voice Style

Carter is known for his unique way of singing and rapping. It is often called a "baby voice." This voice is high-pitched and sometimes unclear. He has used this style on popular songs like "Almeda" with Solange. He also used it on "Earfquake" with Tyler, the Creator.

After Whole Lotta Red came out, he also tried metal-inspired vocal sounds. For example, his rough "deep voice" was first heard on "Mr. Miyagi" with Kanye West and Future.
