Bobby Wardell Sandimanie III (born on July 30, 2001), known by his stage name Destroy Lonely, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He creates music that combines singing and rapping. His first official studio album, If Looks Could Kill, came out in 2023. This album became very popular, reaching number 18 on the US Billboard 200 chart, which lists the most popular albums in the United States. Before that, his mixtape No Stylist (released in 2022) was his first work to appear on the chart, reaching number 91.

About Destroy Lonely

Bobby Wardell Sandimanie III was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on July 30, 2001. He has two younger half-sisters and an older half-brother. His father is the rapper I-20, who worked with the famous rapper Ludacris on his record label, Disturbing tha Peace.

Bobby was homeschooled for a few years, starting in sixth grade. Later, he went back to public school for ninth and tenth grade. He spent a lot of his teenage years by himself. He says this time alone is where the "Lonely" part of his stage name comes from.

Destroy Lonely's Music Journey

How Destroy Lonely Started His Music Career

Destroy Lonely began making music when he was just 14 years old. He recorded his first songs in a studio at his school. There, he met two of his close friends, Texaco and Nezzus. They helped produce many of his early songs and continued to work with him on later projects. Soon after meeting Nezzus, they started recording their first project together, called NezzusDestroyed. Destroy Lonely started to get noticed in 2019 with his song "Bane."

Growing Popular: From </3 to No Stylist

On September 25, 2020, Destroy Lonely released his third mixtape, </3. This title is pronounced "Broken Hearts." About a month later, on October 31, 2020, he released a special deluxe version called </3². After </3 came out and his song "Bane" gained attention, another famous rapper, Playboi Carti, noticed Destroy Lonely in December 2020. This happened after the music video for Destroy Lonely's song "Oh Yeah" was released.

In April 2021, Destroy Lonely appeared in Playboi Carti's music video for his song "Sky." In April 2022, it was announced that Destroy Lonely would perform at the Lyrical Lemonade Summer Smash music festival. In July 2022, he was featured on his friend and fellow artist Ken Carson's album X. Also in July 2022, he appeared on songs by other rappers like Bktherula and Slump6s.

In August 2022, Destroy Lonely released his fifth mixtape, No Stylist. This mixtape featured only one other artist, his labelmate Ken Carson. In September 2022, Destroy Lonely and Ken Carson gave Playboi Carti a ring for his 26th birthday. In October 2022, Destroy Lonely announced the dates for his "No Stylist" tour. He also released a music video for his song "VTMNTSCOAT." This video showed scenes of fancy dinner parties and late-night car rides.

New Albums: If Looks Could Kill and Love Lasts Forever

On November 18, 2022, Destroy Lonely released NS+ (Ultra), which was a deluxe version of his No Stylist mixtape. It included five new songs. He named it "Ultra" after his pet cat. Then, on February 20, 2023, he released a music video for his songs "Neverever" and "Fakenggas" on YouTube.

The next day, on February 21, 2023, Destroy Lonely announced on Tumblr that his next album would be released in April 2023. On March 3, 2023, he released the highly anticipated single "If Looks Could Kill." This song was expected to be the main song from his upcoming debut album.

On May 5, 2023, Destroy Lonely released his first full-length studio album, If Looks Could Kill. It had 25 songs. Two extra songs were included on the CD and vinyl versions. He also released a short film called "Look Killa." On September 29, 2023, Destroy Lonely released a deluxe version of his debut album called If Looks Could Kill (Director's Cut). This version added 6 new songs.

On October 13, 2023, Destroy Lonely was featured on three songs from Ken Carson's third album, A Great Chaos. These songs were "Singapore," "Paranoid," and "Like This," which also featured Lil Uzi Vert.

On August 30, 2024, Lonely released his second studio album, Love Lasts Forever. This album reached number 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Destroy Lonely's Music Style

The Rolling Stone magazine has noted Destroy Lonely's unique way of changing his singing and rapping style. They also mention his use of funny lyrics in his music. He says he is inspired by rock bands like Crystal Castles, Deftones, and The Cure. He also looks up to famous rappers such as Lil Wayne, Drake, Future, Young Thug, and Playboi Carti.

Brandon Callender from The Fader magazine described Destroy Lonely's music like this: "Destroy Lonely has a great ear for beats that sound sparkly and dreamy. These beats are like blank canvases, and his voice adds bright splashes of paint." He is also known for using sounds that sound like an orchestra or samples from the video game Genshin Impact in his songs.
