Pokémon the Movie: Hoopa and the Clash of Ages is an exciting anime adventure film from 2015. In Japan, it's known as Pokémon the Movie XY: The Archdjinni of the Rings: Hoopa (ポケモン・ザ・ムービーXY 光輪リングの超魔神 フーパ, Pokemon Za Mūbī Ekkusu Wai Ringu no chōmajin Fūpa). It is the 18th movie in the popular Pokémon series.

The movie was directed by Kunihiko Yuyama and made by OLM. It features the voices of many talented actors. The story is about a special Pokémon named Hoopa. Hoopa can use its rings to summon people and other Pokémon from far away.

However, Hoopa's powers were sealed away for 100 years. This caused a shadow version of Hoopa to appear. This shadow tries to take control of the real Hoopa. The film shows a big battle between these two forms of Hoopa.

The movie first came out in Japan on July 18, 2015. An English version was made later. It was shown in Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States in late 2015.

The Story of Hoopa

A long time ago, about 100 years ago, a powerful Pokémon named Hoopa became very destructive. Its power was too much to handle. So, its power was sealed inside a special item called the Prison Bottle.

In the present day, Ash Ketchum and his friends are on an adventure. They are with Pikachu, Serena, Clemont, and Bonnie. Suddenly, Hoopa uses its rings to pull them through a portal. They arrive in a city called Dahara City.

Hoopa tries to use its rings to move everyone to Dahara Tower. But Hoopa cannot travel through its own rings in its current state. Baraz, who helps take care of Hoopa, arrives. He is related to the person who sealed Hoopa's power.

Baraz brings the Prison Bottle. The bottle takes over Baraz for a moment. He accidentally releases a shadow of Hoopa. This shadow was created from Hoopa's anger about being sealed away. Hoopa's power is put back into the bottle.

Later, Team Rocket tries to steal the bottle. When Meowth touches it, he also gets taken over. He opens the bottle, and Hoopa's power is unleashed again. Hoopa tries to fight off this power.

But then, Hoopa's shadow becomes a separate Pokémon. It tries to control the real Hoopa. During this struggle, the Prison Bottle breaks. Hoopa then summons the powerful Lugia. Lugia helps by distracting Hoopa's shadow. This allows Hoopa to escape.

Baraz and his sister Meray know how to make a new Prison Bottle. They need the power of earth, fire, and water. They decide to use Serena's Braixen, Ash's Frogadier, and a wild Hippopotas. These Pokémon help them gather the needed powers.

Hoopa's shadow tricks Lugia into flying into a ring. It sends Lugia back to its home in the ocean. Hoopa then summons more Legendary Pokémon: Latias, Latios, and Rayquaza.

Ash, Hoopa, and Pikachu ride on Latias and Latios. Rayquaza helps them battle Hoopa's shadow. Ash tells the Pokémon to attack. But Hoopa's shadow summons six more Legendary Pokémon!

Meanwhile, at the tower, the others are busy. They are working to make the new Prison Bottle. They use the powers of fire, earth, and water. Rayquaza creates a giant twister around Dahara Tower. This protects the tower from the battle outside.

However, Hoopa's shadow and the other Legendary Pokémon break through the twister. The new bottle is finally made. But Baraz drops it! Ash catches it, but he gets possessed too.

Hoopa then uses its happy memories to cleanse its shadow. The evil shadow disappears. But too many Legendary Pokémon were summoned. This causes a time warp to form around the tower.

Hoopa's powers are now fully restored and no longer affected by anger. It uses its rings to help everyone escape the tower. But Hoopa cannot pass through its own rings. Then, the space-time rift stops. Arceus uses its power to stop it. This gives Hoopa one more chance to escape.

Hoopa remembers the words of Baraz and Meray's great-grandfather. He was the one who first sealed Hoopa's power. Hoopa now sees Baraz and Meray as family. Hoopa decides to stay with them. Finally, Hoopa is able to travel through its own rings! Hoopa decides to rebuild the city before returning to its home.

• Hoopa (フーパ): This Pokémon is known for being mischievous. In the Japanese version, Rie Kugimiya voices Hoopa's smaller, "Confined" form. Kōichi Yamadera voices Hoopa's larger, "Unbound" form. In the English version, Lori Phillips voices the Confined form, and Ryan William Downey voices the Unbound form.
• Baraz (バルザ): He is Meray's older brother. He tries to help Hoopa become "unbound" and use its full power. In Japanese, he is voiced by Tatsuya Fujiwara. In English, Daniel J. Edwards voices him.
• Meray (メアリ): She is Baraz's younger sister. She also helps take care of Hoopa. In Japanese, Shoko Nakagawa voices her. In English, Emily Woo Zeller voices her.

Movie Music

The Japanese ending song for the movie is "Tweedia." It was created by Kenji Tamai and Masahiro Tobinai. Rei Yasuda sings this song.

The English ending song is called "Every Side of Me." Ed Goldfarb composed this song. Dani Marcus is the singer.

How Well Did the Movie Do?

The movie earned ¥2,610,000,000 in Japan. This amount is called the "gross" and means the total money the movie made. This makes it one of the Pokémon movies that earned the least money. It did a little better than Pokémon Heroes, which earned the lowest amount.
