Tatsuya Fujiwara (藤原 竜也, Fujiwara Tatsuya, born May 15, 1982) is a famous Japanese actor. He is well-known around the world for playing important characters in many movies. Some of his most famous roles include Shuya Nanahara in the Battle Royale films and Light Yagami in the Death Note movies. He also played Kaiji Itō in the Kaiji films and Rikuhiko Yuki in The Incite Mill. In 2014, he played the villain Shishio Makoto in the live-action Rurouni Kenshin films.

Early Life and Family

Tatsuya Fujiwara was born in Chichibu, Saitama, Japan. He has been interested in acting since he was very young. In 2013, he married his long-time girlfriend. They became parents in the summer of 2016. The name and gender of their child are not known to the public.

Acting Career Highlights

Tatsuya Fujiwara is famous for his role as Shuya Nanahara in the 2000 film Battle Royale. He also played this character again in the sequel, Battle Royale II: Requiem.

He starred as Light Yagami in the movies Death Note and Death Note: The Last Name. These films are based on a popular Japanese comic series called manga. He also made a short appearance in L: Change the World, which is a spin-off movie from the Death Note series. Tatsuya said that it was hard to play Light because the character had to hide his feelings so much. During the filming of Death Note: The Last Name, Tatsuya became good friends with Kenichi Matsuyama, who played the character L.

Working in Theater

Tatsuya Fujiwara is also well-known for his work in theater. He often worked with Yukio Ninagawa, who was a very important director in Japan. Tatsuya started his acting career on stage before he began making movies. His first big role in theater was in a play called Shintoku-maru. He has also acted in plays by Shakespeare, such as Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet.

Other Notable Roles

Fujiwara played one of the main characters in Hideo Nakata's movie The Incite Mill, which is a psychological thriller. He has also done voice acting for the Korean TV show IRIS. In this show, he voiced the character Kim Hyun-jun, who was played by Lee Byung-hun.

In 2014, he played the character Shishio Makoto in the Rurouni Kenshin movie sequels. He returned to the stage in 2015 to play Hamlet again. He performed this play in Japan, Taiwan, and at the Barbican Theatre in London.

A magazine called Cleo in Singapore mentioned in 2016 that Tatsuya Fujiwara is "probably one of the most recognisable Japanese stars" in Singapore. This shows how famous he is internationally.
