Polaris Fashion Place is a big shopping mall in Columbus, Ohio, USA. It has two floors and lots of stores. It's owned by Washington Prime Group. You can find it near Interstate 71 on Polaris Parkway. The mall is in Delaware County, just north of Franklin County.
The mall has five main stores, called "anchor stores." These are Saks Fifth Avenue, Von Maur, Macy's, JCPenney, and a combined Dick's Sporting Goods/Public Lands. There's also an outdoor area with places like Dave & Buster's and Barnes & Noble. Polaris Fashion Place is part of a huge area called POLARIS Centers of Commerce. This whole area is 1,200 acres big! It includes places like the McCoy Center and Polaris Founder's Park.
How Polaris Fashion Place Started
Construction on Polaris Fashion Place began in June 2000. The mall officially opened its doors in November 2001. When it first opened, it had 146 smaller stores inside.
The people who built the mall wanted to bring new stores to the area. Four of the seven main "anchor stores" were new to Columbus. These included Kaufmann's, The Great Indoors, Lord & Taylor, and Saks Fifth Avenue. The other three main stores were JCPenney, Sears, and Lazarus. These three stores moved from another mall called Northland Mall. Northland Mall closed in 2002 and was later taken down in 2004.
Changes Over the Years
In 2003, the Lazarus store changed its name to Lazarus-Macy's. Then, in 2005, it became just Macy's. In 2006, the company that owned Kaufmann's was bought by another company. The Kaufmann's store at Polaris Fashion Place then closed.
In 2007, the old Kaufmann's building was taken down. This made space for a new outdoor area. This new section opened in 2008. It added stores like Barnes & Noble and Forever 21. It also brought in new restaurants like Benihana, The Cheesecake Factory, and Dave & Buster's. The Lord & Taylor store closed in 2004. It was replaced by Von Maur, which was the first Von Maur store in Ohio.
In 2012, The Great Indoors store closed down. In 2015, that space was replaced by a new Dick's Sporting Goods and Field & Stream store. Field & Stream is now known as Public Lands. The Sears store closed in 2019. There are plans to build new things in that space.
