Polish literature is writing from Poland. It includes stories, poems, and plays. Most of the oldest Polish writings are from after the 10th century. This was when Poland became Christian.
In the Middle Ages, most Polish literature was written in Latin. Only a few texts were in the Polish language. After the Renaissance, Polish became just as important as Latin for writing.

Early Polish Writers
In the 16th century, Jan Kochanowski was a very important poet. He was a leader in European Renaissance literature. Polish writers often got ideas from other European countries. But they also had their own unique styles. New ideas came to Poland through travelers and political connections. These ideas often became popular a bit later than in other places.
Baroque Period
Polish Baroque literature had two main styles. One was for a small, educated group. Writers like Jan Andrzej Morsztyn and Maciej Kazimierz Sarbiewski wrote in this style. The other style was for everyday nobles, like Jan Chryzostom Pasek.
Enlightenment Era
During the Enlightenment, French ideas greatly influenced Polish literature. At this time, Poland was not very strong. It needed big political changes. So, literature from this period often focused on society and the country. It was less about love or religion.
Romanticism and Independence
In the 19th century, Poland was not an independent country. From 1822 to 1863, Romanticism was a very popular style in Polish literature. Romantic writers often wrote about feelings, nature, and national pride.
Famous Romantic Poets
Some of the most famous Romantic poets were Adam Mickiewicz, Juliusz Słowacki, and Zygmunt Krasiński. Adam Mickiewicz wrote a famous epic poem called Pan Tadeusz in 1834. This poem is still very popular today. Romanticism ended in Poland after a failed uprising against Russia in 1863.
