Ponderay is a city located in Bonner County, Idaho. In 2020, about 1,289 people lived there. It has grown quite a bit, as only 638 people lived there in 2000. Ponderay's motto is "Little City with the Big Future". Its name comes from the French words “Pend Oreille”, which is also the name of the big lake the city is near.

History of Ponderay
Ponderay was first officially recorded in Kootenai County on May 5, 1904. It started as a small village on May 27, 1947. Later, on November 26, 1968, it became known as the City of Ponderay. The city was built where a company town for the Panhandle Smelting and Refining Company used to be.
Geography and Location
Ponderay is located in a beautiful part of Idaho. The city covers a total area of about 3.02 square miles (7.82 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 2.90 square miles (7.51 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 0.12 square miles (0.31 square kilometers), is water, likely from nearby lakes or rivers.
