The zoo also teaches visitors about animals and their homes. They even have a separate building where you can adopt rescued dogs and cats. The name "Popcorn Park" comes from how visitors get a box of popcorn when they enter. You can use this popcorn to feed some of the animals!

The History of Popcorn Park Zoo

Popcorn Park Zoo opened in 1977. It started as a safe place for exotic and farm animals. These were animals that needed help because they were sick, injured, or had been treated badly. The idea for the zoo began with an injured raccoon.

Over the years, this special organization has cared for thousands of animals. People's donations help the zoo continue its important work. The zoo once had a large elephant that was rescued from a zoo in Mexico. After the elephant passed away, her large space became home to several llamas. They really enjoy the open area!

Meet the Animals at Popcorn Park

Popcorn Park Zoo is home to over 200 animals. You can see amazing creatures like Bengal tigers and Siberian tigers. There are also African lions and cougars. You might spot American black bears too!

The zoo also has an Arabian camel. This camel came from a famous estate called Rough Point. You can also see many different kinds of monkeys, including four baboons. Other animals include foxes and white-tailed deer.

Princess, the camel, lived at the zoo for many years. She passed away on February 2, 2014.

Keeping Animals Safe

In May 2003, some animals at the park were harmed. Three ducks, three emus, and two rheas were killed. After this sad event, the zoo made its safety measures even stronger. They added an alarm system around the entire park. There is also a camera system to watch over the animals every night after the zoo closes. This helps keep all the animals protected from harm.
