- It was built for people who worked on the railway between San Antonio and Aransas Pass.
- In 1901, the town's name was changed to Poth. It was named after A. H. Poth, who owned a cotton business there.
A Special Event in Poth's History
In 1970, Poth became famous across the country. This happened when a child in the town got polio. Polio was a serious disease. To stop it from spreading, almost everyone in Poth agreed to get a special vaccine. More than 1,100 out of 1,296 citizens got the oral polio vaccine. This helped protect the community.
