Povington Hill is a cool spot in the Purbeck Hills in Dorset, England. It stands about 198 meters (or 650 feet) tall. This makes it one of the highest points in this range of hills.

Povington Hill is special because it has a "prominence" of 107 meters. This means it rises quite a bit from the land around it. Because of this, it's listed as a "Tump," which is a type of hill that stands out.

Exploring Povington Hill

Povington Hill is located inside the Lulworth Ranges. This area is used for military training during the week. Because of this, you can't visit Povington Hill on weekdays.

Weekend Adventures

Good news! On weekends and public holidays, the Lulworth Ranges are open. This means Povington Hill becomes a popular place to visit. Many people come here for picnics and to enjoy the amazing views.

From the top of the hill, you can see lots of interesting places. Look south to spot Worbarrow Bay and the old village of Tyneham. You can also see St. Aldhelm's Head and Swyre Head. On a clear day, you might even see Portland Bill far away.

To the north, you'll see the firing ranges on the Dorset Heaths. The hill itself doesn't have many trees. It's mostly covered in grassy fields and small bushes.

How to Get There

You can visit Povington Hill when the Lulworth Ranges are open to the public. There's a small road that goes right over the top of the hill. This road connects East Lulworth to Creech.

Parking and Walks

At the summit, you'll find a free car park. It's a great spot to start your adventure or have a picnic. From the car park, you can take different walks.

You can walk west along the top of the hill towards Whiteway Hill and Flower's Barrow. There are also paths that go south into the village of Tyneham. If you walk east, you'll head towards Ridgeway Hill.
