Prince Oscar's Birth
Prince Oscar was born on March 2, 2016. He was born at the Karolinska University Hospital in Solna, Sweden. To celebrate his birth, two special "21-gun salutes" were fired. This is a traditional way to honor important royal events. The salutes happened on the island of Skeppsholmen, near Stockholm Palace.
The day after he was born, his grandfather, the King, announced his names. He also announced Prince Oscar's special title: the Duke of Skåne. A special church service, called a Te Deum, was held. This thanksgiving service took place in the Royal Chapel of the palace on March 3, 2016.
Prince Oscar's Christening
Prince Oscar was christened on May 27, 2016. The christening ceremony took place at the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace. His godparents are important people from royal families and his own family. They include King Frederik X of Denmark (who was then Crown Prince). Also, Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway is one of his godparents.
His maternal aunt, Princess Madeleine of Sweden, is also a godparent. Two cousins, Oscar Magnuson and Hans Åström, are also his godparents. Prince Oscar wore a very old family christening gown. This gown was first worn by his great-grandfather, Prince Gustaf Adolf, in 1906. His name and christening date were added to the gown in embroidery.
