Princess Estelle's Birth Story
Princess Estelle was born at 4:26 AM on February 23, 2012. She was born at the Karolinska University Hospital in Solna, Sweden. Her birth was celebrated with two 21-gun salutes. These are special gun firings that happen on Skeppsholmen island, near the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
Her grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf, announced her names and title the next day. This happened at a special meeting called a cabinet meeting. After the meeting, a religious service called a Te Deum was held. It took place in the royal chapel at the palace.
Before her name was officially announced, there was a small mistake. The royal website accidentally showed a different name and title for a short time. The staff later explained they were just testing their system.
Princess Estelle was baptised on May 22, 2012. The ceremony took place at the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace. Archbishop Anders Wejryd led the special event. Her godparents are important people from royal families and her own family. They include her uncle, Prince Carl Philip of Sweden, and her aunt, Anna Westling-Söderström. Other godparents were King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands, Queen Mary of Denmark, and Crown Prince Haakon of Norway.
Estelle wore a very old family baptismal gown for the ceremony. Her great-grandfather, Prince Gustaf Adolf, first wore it in 1906. Her name and baptism date were added to the gown with embroidery. A special prayer book was also released for her baptism. It was called Princess Estelle's Prayerbook.
Princess Estelle is second in line to the Swedish throne. She is the first girl in Swedish history to be born with a right to the crown that cannot be changed if a boy is born later. She is also the first person in Swedish history to be born to a female heir apparent. An heir apparent is someone who is sure to inherit the throne.
Education and Royal Duties
Princess Estelle has been in the public eye since she was born. This is because she is second in line to the Swedish throne.
On May 17, 2014, when she was two years old, Estelle opened a special path. It was a fairytale path named "Duchess Estelle's Fairytale Path" in Tåkern, Östergötland. When she was baptised, she received a small swan and a certificate for this trail. This showed that she would do official royal duties there in the future. She also visited Linköping Castle. There, she was welcomed by local officials.
Princess Estelle started preschool on August 25, 2014. She went to Äventyret Preschool in Danderyd Municipality, Stockholm. In August 2018, she began attending the Campus Manilla School. This school is located in Royal Djurgården.
