Princess Estelle's Birth Story
Princess Estelle was born on February 23, 2012, at 4:26 AM. She was born at the Karolinska University Hospital in Solna, Sweden. To celebrate her birth, two special 21-gun salutes were fired. These salutes happened on the island of Skeppsholmen, across from the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
Her grandfather, King Carl XVI Gustaf, announced her names and title the next day, on February 24, 2012. This announcement took place during a meeting with government officials. After the meeting, a special church service called a Te Deum was held. This service took place in the royal chapel at the palace.
Princess Estelle was baptized on May 22, 2012. The baptism ceremony happened at the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace. Archbishop Anders Wejryd led the service. She wore a very old family baptismal gown. This gown was first worn by her great-grandfather, Prince Gustaf Adolf, in 1906. Her name and the date of her baptism were later added to the gown in embroidery. A special prayer book was also released for her baptism. It was called Prinsessan Estelles bönbok, which means "Princess Estelle's Prayerbook."
Princess Estelle is second in the line of succession to the Swedish throne. This means she is very likely to become queen one day. She is the first girl in Swedish history to be born with a right to the crown that cannot be taken away if a boy is born later. She is also the first person in Swedish history to be born to a female heir apparent (someone who is definitely going to inherit the throne).
