Princess Falls is a beautiful waterfall located near the Chedoke Radial Trail in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. It is about 7 metres (23 feet) tall. This waterfall is best seen after a lot of rain or when snow is melting. This is because more water flows over it then. Princess Falls is also sometimes called Lower Princess Falls.

The Chedoke Radial Trail and Hamilton's History

The Chedoke Radial Trail is a popular path in Hamilton. Many waterfalls in the western part of the city can be reached from this trail. The trail itself was once a railway line. It was used by the Brantford and Hamilton Electric Railway. This railway was owned by a company called the Cataract Power Light and Traction Company.

Hamilton: The Electric City

In 1898, a group of five important people, sometimes called "The Five Johns," started The Cataract Power Co. Ltd.. They brought electric power to Hamilton. On August 25, 1898, electricity traveled 27 miles from DeCew Falls in St. Catharines. This power was made using water from the old Welland Canal.

This new, cheaper electricity helped Hamilton grow. Big companies like Stelco (a steel company) and Canadian Westinghouse came to the city. They liked having affordable and efficient power. At one time, this power company controlled electricity from Brantford to St. Catharines. It also ran the Hamilton Street Railway and other local train lines. Because of all this electric power, Hamilton was once known as "The Electric City.".
