Pukintika is a tall volcano located in the Andes mountains. It stands about 5,407 meters (17,740 feet) high. This volcano sits right on the border between two countries: Bolivia and Chile.
The name Pukintika comes from the Aymara language. Puki means "white soil" and tika means "adobe" (a type of brick). You might also see its name spelled as Puguintica, Puquintica, Poquentica, or Puquentica.
Where is Pukintika Located?
Pukintika is part of the Cordillera Occidental, which is a mountain range in the Andes. On the Chilean side, it is in the Arica y Parinacota Region. On the Bolivian side, it is in the Oruro Department. Specifically, it is in Sabaya Province, Sabaya Municipality, and Julo Canton.
This volcano is found north of a large salt flat called the Salar de Surire. It is also located just east of another volcano named Arintica. Arintika is a younger volcano compared to Pukintika.
