Quantico (pronounced kwan-TIH-koh) is a small town in Prince William County, Virginia, United States. It used to be called Potomac. In 2010, about 480 people lived there.
Quantico is located about 35 miles southwest of Washington, D.C.. The Potomac River is to its east, and the Quantico Creek is to its north. The name "Quantico" comes from an old Native American village called Pamacocack, which belonged to the Doeg tribe.
This town is special because it's almost completely surrounded by a very large U.S. Marine Corps base. This base is called Marine Corps Base Quantico. Many important places are on this base. These include the HMX-1 squadron, which flies helicopters for the President. Also, the FBI Academy and FBI Laboratory are here. Other important training centers are for the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
