Quartz Hill is located in the High Desert area of California, north of Los Angeles. Years ago, in the 1970s, Quartz Hill was mostly a farming area. People grew almonds and alfalfa, and raised turkeys.
Over time, farming became harder because of plant diseases and water being sent to Los Angeles. So, many people started working at nearby aerospace companies like Lockheed Martin.
Even though there are fewer farms now, Quartz Hill still celebrates its farming past. Every year, they have an "Almond Blossom Festival."
