Quartz Lake is a beautiful lake located in Alaska, about 10 mi (16 km) north of a town called Delta Junction. Early explorers looking for valuable minerals, known as prospectors, gave the lake its name.

Even though much of the land around the lake is privately owned, there's a special public area called the Quartz Lake State Recreation Area. You can easily reach it from the Richardson Highway. This recreation area is a great place to visit!

Discover Quartz Lake

Quartz Lake is a medium-sized lake. It covers about 1,500 acres (610 ha) of water. While many parts of the lake are shallow, less than 15 feet (4.6 m) deep, it also has some deeper spots. The deepest part of the lake goes down to about 40 ft (12 m). The lake is usually frozen from October until April or May.

Fun at Quartz Lake State Recreation Area

The Quartz Lake State Recreation Area offers lots of fun activities. It has places where you can set up your campground and spend the night. There are also hiking trails where you can explore the outdoors. If you want a cozy place to stay, you can rent one of the public use cabins.

The recreation area gives you access to both Quartz Lake and a smaller, nearby lake called Little Lost Lake.

Fish and Fishing

Quartz Lake is a popular spot for fishing. The lake is regularly stocked with different kinds of fish. You can find rainbow trout, Arctic char, and various types of salmon swimming in its waters.

The money used to stock the lake comes partly from the Sportfish Restoration Program. This program uses tax money collected from people who buy fishing gear and boat fuel. This helps fund special programs that raise fish in hatcheries and then release them into lakes like Quartz Lake. This way, there are always plenty of fish for everyone to enjoy!
