The Queenstown Events Centre is a super cool sports place in Queenstown. It's also known as John Davies Oval or Davies Park. This awesome centre is located in the South Island of New Zealand. It's a big area where you can do many different sports and activities, both indoors and outdoors!

History of the Centre

The Queenstown Events Centre first opened its doors in 1997. It sits on land owned by the Queenstown Lakes District Council. This means it's a community space for everyone to enjoy.

The stadium can hold up to 19,000 people. About 6,000 of those seats are always there. The centre is in a beautiful spot, right between the amazing Remarkables mountains and the clear waters of Lake Wakatipu. The Queenstown International Airport is also very close by.

Many exciting events happen here. You can watch international cricket games and Highlanders rugby matches. The centre also hosts big shows, exhibitions, and even concerts. It's a busy place for sports and fun!

What Can You Do Here?

The Queenstown Events Centre offers tons of activities for all ages. You can play cricket and rugby. There's also swimming, golf, and fitness training. If you like racket sports, you can play tennis or netball, both indoors and outdoors. For an adventure, try indoor rock climbing! Many local sports clubs also call this centre home.

Cricket Fun

Cricket is a big deal at the centre. You can watch different types of matches, including One Day Internationals. Local Twenty20 games, school cricket, and even six-a-side competitions are played here. If you want to practice your batting or bowling, there are special nets near the entrance.

Something amazing happened here on January 1, 2014. A New Zealand Black Caps player named Corey Anderson made history! He scored the fastest One Day International (ODI) hundred ever at that time. He hit 100 runs in just 36 balls! He ended up with an incredible 131 runs, not out, including 14 sixes and 6 fours. He and Jesse Ryder also helped New Zealand set a record for the most sixes in one ODI game.

Alpine Aqualand: Water Park

Get ready for a splash at Alpine Aqualand! This indoor water park is part of the Queenstown Events Centre. It has a 25-metre lap pool with 8 lanes for serious swimmers. There's also a fun leisure pool and a lazy river where you can float along. If you love slides, you'll enjoy the two cool hydroslides. Little ones have their own toddler pool and learners pools. Plus, there are hot tubs to relax in!

Frankton Golf Centre

If you enjoy golf, check out the Frankton Golf Centre. It's a 9-hole golf course located right next to the Queenstown Events Centre. The course is a par 30, with six par 3 holes and three par 4 holes. The shortest hole is 73 metres, and the longest is 310 metres. The record for this course is an amazing 26 strokes! You can also practice your swing at the driving range. They even have a footgolf course, which is like golf but you kick a soccer ball! There's a pro shop too, for all your golf gear.

Rockatipu Climbing Wall

Ready to climb to new heights? The Rockatipu Climbing Wall is an indoor climbing area at the centre. It has over 40 different climbs for all skill levels. You'll find vertical walls and even overhanging rock features. They offer classes, special climbing courses for kids, and you can rent all the equipment you need. It's a great way to challenge yourself and have fun!
