The Queenstown Events Centre is a large sports and event place in Queenstown, New Zealand. It's also known as John Davies Oval or Davies Park. This centre is a multi-purpose venue, meaning it can be used for many different activities. It's located in the beautiful Otago region on the South Island of New Zealand.

About the Queenstown Events Centre

The Queenstown Events Centre first opened its doors in 1997. It's built on land owned by the Queenstown-Lakes District Council. This makes it a public space for everyone to enjoy.

The main stadium can hold up to 19,000 people. About 6,000 seats are always there, and another 13,000 temporary seats can be added for bigger events.

A Special Location

This sports ground is known as one of the most amazing places in the world to watch international cricket. It sits between the tall Remarkables mountains and the clear waters of Lake Wakatipu. You can even see large planes taking off and landing at the nearby Queenstown International Airport. This makes for some truly incredible views!

The centre hosts many exciting events. These include international cricket matches and rugby games with the Highlanders team. It's also a "home ground" for the Otago Cricket team. Besides sports, it holds trade shows, exhibitions, seminars, and concerts.

A Cricket Record

On January 1, 2014, something amazing happened here. New Zealand's Black Caps player Corey Anderson broke a world record. He scored the fastest century (100 runs) in a One Day International (ODI) cricket match. He reached 100 runs in just 36 balls! This beat the old record by one ball. Corey ended up scoring 131 runs without being out, hitting 14 sixes and 6 fours. He and Jesse Ryder also set a team record for the most sixes in one ODI game.
