Rüdlingen is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is part of the canton of Schaffhausen.

History of Rüdlingen

Rüdlingen was first written about in the year 827. Back then, its name was Ruodiningun.

Rüdlingen covers an area of about 5.5 square kilometers (2.1 square miles). Nearly half of this land (47.6%) is used for farming. About 33.8% is covered by forests. Buildings and roads take up 8.1% of the land. The rest (10.5%) includes rivers or lakes.

The town is located in the Schaffhausen area. It sits by a bend in the Rhine river, near the town of Eglisau.

Rüdlingen, along with another town called Buchberg, is special. They form two separate parts, known as exclaves, of the Schaffhausen canton. These parts are surrounded by the Canton of Zürich in Switzerland and the German state of Baden-Württemberg.

Transportation Links

There is a road that crosses the border into Germany from Rüdlingen. This crossing is located at a place called Ischläg. It leads to the German town of Nack, which is part of the Lottstetten municipality in Baden-Württemberg.
