Robert James Reynolds (born April 19, 1959), known as R. J. Reynolds, is a former professional baseball player. He was an outfielder who played in Major League Baseball (MLB). He played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Pittsburgh Pirates. His MLB career lasted from 1983 to 1990. After that, he played in Japan for the Yokohama Taiyo Whales and Kintetsu Buffaloes from 1991 to 1993.

Playing Career Highlights
R. J. Reynolds started his MLB career with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1983. He joined the team late in the season. This is sometimes called a "September call-up." The Dodgers had a good season that year.
Time with the Dodgers and Pirates
Reynolds played for the Dodgers in 1984 and most of 1985. He was an important player, appearing in more than half of the team's games. In August 1985, he was part of a trade. The Dodgers sent him to the Pittsburgh Pirates. This trade helped both teams.
In 1986, Reynolds started the Pirates' season with a bang. He hit a home run in the very first game. This was against famous pitcher Dwight Gooden of the New York Mets. Reynolds continued to play well for the Pirates.
Playoffs and Japan
In 1990, Reynolds helped the Pirates reach the playoffs. He played in all six games of the 1990 National League Championship Series. The Pirates played against the Cincinnati Reds. Even though the Pirates did not win, Reynolds showed his skill.
After the 1990 season, Reynolds decided to play baseball in Japan. He joined the Yokohama Taiyo Whales in 1991. He played there for two years. Then, he moved to the Kintetsu Buffaloes for his final season in 1993. He retired from playing baseball at age 34.
