RTL Telekids is a special TV channel for kids in the Netherlands. It is owned by a company called RTL Nederland. This channel is a "pay television" channel, which means you usually need to pay a subscription to watch it.

For a while, RTL Telekids also had a special block of kids' shows on another TV channel called RTL 8. This block of shows was broadcast during the daytime until the end of 2020. Even though it's for Dutch viewers, RTL Telekids is officially registered in Luxembourg. This means it follows the rules of Luxembourg, not the media laws of the Netherlands.

What is a Youth Block?

On August 19, 2010, RTL announced that the name RTL Telekids would be used for a new "youth block" on the RTL 8 channel. A youth block is a set time during the day when a TV channel shows programs specifically for children and young people.

This new RTL Telekids block was different from the older show called Telekids. The new block did not have a presenter in a studio introducing the shows. Instead, it just played the cartoons and series directly. The launch of this youth block was first planned for October 4, 2010. However, it was postponed and started two weeks later, on October 18, 2010.

RTL Telekids as a Digital Channel

RTL Telekids also became its own digital TV channel. A digital channel is a TV channel that is broadcast using digital signals, which often gives a clearer picture and sound. You can watch the RTL Telekids digital channel through different TV providers.

It became available on Ziggo and Caiway starting September 3, 2012. Later, on July 1, 2015, it also became available on KPN and Telfort. This channel was the third digital channel launched by RTL.
