Rainworth is a small area, also called a neighbourhood, located within the larger suburb of Bardon. It is part of the City of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia.
This area got its name from a large house called Rainworth House. The land around the house was later divided into smaller blocks for homes after its first owner, Sir Augustus Charles Gregory, passed away.

Rainworth is mostly a place where people live. It has many traditional Queenslander-style houses. These homes are often made of timber and tin, with big balconies and unique pyramid or multiple pointed roofs.
A Look Back at Rainworth's History
How Rainworth Got Its Name
The story of Rainworth begins with a large property called "Rainworth House." This house was owned by Sir Augustus Charles Gregory, who was a very important surveyor in Queensland. He named his home "Rainworth" after a town near where he was born in England.
After Sir Gregory died in 1905, his house and the surrounding land were sold.
Growing into a Community
In 1918 and 1925, the land was divided and sold for people to build houses. This area became known as the Rainworth Estate. It included streets like Barton Street, Dudley Street, and Rouen Road.
Rainworth State School Opens
The Rainworth State School first opened its doors on July 2, 1928. It quickly became a central part of the community.
Trams and Transport
In 1930, the tram service was extended to Rainworth, making it easier for people to travel. The tram stop was right outside the school. However, the tram service stopped on December 25, 1962, after a fire damaged a tram depot. Later, in 1969, all tram services in Brisbane were shut down. Today, you can still see some old tram waiting sheds, which are now considered historical landmarks.
St Mary's Anglican Church
St Mary's Anglican Church in Rainworth was officially opened in 1964. It has served the community as a place of worship since then.
Learning and Education
Rainworth State School is a government primary school for students from Prep (the first year of school) to Year 6. It is located at 185 Boundary Road. In 2017, the school had over 500 students. The school building itself is listed on the Queensland Heritage Register, meaning it's an important historical site.
