Raluca Turcan (born on April 2, 1976) is a well-known Romanian politician. She is a member of the National Liberal Party (PNL). Since 2004, she has been a representative for Sibiu County in the Romanian Parliament.
Raluca Turcan married Valeriu Turcan in 2004. He used to be an adviser to the Romanian President Traian Băsescu. They have a son named Eric, who was born in 2007.

About Raluca Turcan's Life
Early Life and Education
Raluca Turcan was born in Botoșani, Romania. Her parents are Dumitru and Maria-Margareta Tatarcan. Her father worked as a high school principal.
She studied at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. She graduated in 1999 with a degree in International Economic Relations. From 1996 to 1999, she also studied at Moscow's Pushkin Institute. There, she earned a degree in business Russian.
In 2006, she started working on a master's degree. This was in political marketing at the National School of Administration and Political Science of Bucharest. In the same year, she began her doctorate studies at the Transylvania University of Braşov. She also took part in studies in Austria and the United States.
Starting Her Career
From 1999 to 2000, Raluca Turcan worked as a public relations consultant. She helped Tofan Grup, a company that sells car tires. After that, she became a parliamentary expert. She worked at the Romanian Senate from 2000 to 2004.
She also taught as an associated professor. From 2000 to 2006, she taught at Transylvania University. She also taught at the Romanian-German University of Sibiu.
Raluca Turcan's Political Journey
First Steps in Politics
Raluca Turcan began her political career in 2000. She started as an adviser to the president of the National Council of the National Liberal Party (PNL). In 2002, she became an adviser to the PNL President, Theodor Stolojan. She held this role until 2004.
In 2004, she was elected to the Romanian Parliament. She also joined the PNL's national leadership council. She stayed on this council until 2006.
Changing Political Parties
After leaving the PNL, she joined a new party. This was the Liberal Democratic Party (PLD), started by Theodor Stolojan. She became the vice president of the PLD from March to December 2007.
In December 2007, the PLD joined with the Democratic Party. This formed a new party called the PDL. Raluca Turcan became the vice president of this new party. She was re-elected to Parliament in 2008.
Roles in Parliament
While in the Chamber of Deputies, she worked on several committees. She was also the president of the Committee on Culture, Arts and Mass Media twice. She held this position from 2005 to 2006 and again starting in 2008.
At the 2012 election, she won another term in Parliament. This was thanks to a special rule in the election law.
Leading the National Liberal Party
After the PNL lost the 2016 election, its president, Alina Gorghiu, resigned. Raluca Turcan then served as the temporary leader of the party. She held this role until Ludovic Orban was elected as the permanent leader.
In May 2019, she ran for the position of Chamber President. She lost to Marcel Ciolacu from the Social Democratic Party (PSD).
