Raluca Turcan, born on April 2, 1976, is a well-known politician from Romania. She is a member of the National Liberal Party, often called PNL. Since 2004, she has been a representative for Sibiu County in the Romanian Parliament. This means she helps make laws for her country.
She is married to Valeriu Turcan. He used to be an adviser to the former Romanian President Traian Băsescu. They have a son named Eric, who was born in 2007.

Raluca Turcan's Early Life and Education
Raluca Turcan was born in Botoșani, a city in Romania. Her parents are Dumitru and Maria-Margareta Tatarcan. Her father worked as a high school principal.
Her University Studies
Raluca Turcan studied at the Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies. She focused on International Economic Relations and finished her degree in 1999. From 1996 to 1999, she also studied at the Pushkin Institute in Moscow, where she learned business Russian.
Later, in 2006, she started a master's degree in political marketing. This was at the National School of Administration and Political Science of Bucharest. In the same year, she began working on her doctorate at the Transylvania University of Braşov. She also took part in study programs in Austria and the United States.
Her First Jobs
Before becoming a politician, Raluca Turcan worked in public relations. From 1999 to 2000, she was a consultant for Tofan Grup, a company that sells car tires. After that, she worked as an expert for the Romanian Senate from 2000 to 2004. She also taught as a professor at Transylvania University and the Romanian-German University of Sibiu from 2000 to 2006.
Raluca Turcan's Political Career
Raluca Turcan started her journey in politics in 2000. She began as an adviser to the president of the National Liberal Party (PNL).
Joining Party Leadership
In 2002, she became an adviser to the PNL President, Theodor Stolojan, a role she held until 2004. That same year, she was elected to the Romanian Parliament. She also joined the PNL's national leadership council, staying there until 2006.
Changing Political Parties
After leaving the PNL, Raluca Turcan joined a new party called the Liberal Democratic Party (PLD). This party was started by Theodor Stolojan. She served as the vice president of the PLD from March to December 2007.
In December 2007, the PLD merged with another party, the Democratic Party. This created a new group called the PDL. Raluca Turcan became the vice president of this new party. She was re-elected to Parliament in 2008.
Roles in Parliament
While in the Chamber of Deputies, Raluca Turcan has been part of several important committees. She was the president of the Committee on Culture, Arts and Mass Media twice. Her first term was from 2005 to 2006, and her second began in 2008.
In the 2012 election, she came in second place in her area. However, she still won a new term in Parliament because of how the election rules work.
Leading the National Liberal Party
After the PNL lost the 2016 election, its president, Alina Gorghiu, resigned. Raluca Turcan then served as the interim (temporary) leader of the party. She held this role until Ludovic Orban was elected as the permanent president.
In May 2019, Raluca Turcan ran for the position of Chamber President. This happened after a vacancy occurred. She lost the election to Marcel Ciolacu from the Social Democratic Party (PSD).
Ministerial Positions
Raluca Turcan has also held important roles in the Romanian government. She served as the Deputy Prime Minister of Romania from November 2019 to December 2020. This role means she helped lead the government alongside the Prime Minister.
From December 2020 to November 2021, she was the Minister of Labor and Social Protection. In this job, she was in charge of policies related to jobs and social support for people in Romania. More recently, she became the Minister of Culture on June 15, 2023.
