Ravindrasinh Anirudhsinh Jadeja (born 6 December 1988) is a famous Indian cricket player. He plays for the Indian national team in Test and ODI matches. He is known as an all-rounder, which means he is great at both batting and bowling. He bats left-handed and bowls left-arm spin.
Many people think he is one of the best all-rounders of his time. In 2021, he became only the fifth Indian player to score 2,000 runs and take 200 wickets in Test cricket. He was a key player when India won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. He also helped India win the 2024 T20 World Cup, after which he stopped playing T20 International matches.
Ravindra Jadeja plays for Saurashtra in first-class cricket. He has also been a captain for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. As of August 2023, he is the 7th highest wicket-taker for India in ODI matches, with 220 wickets.
Jadeja was the vice-captain of the Indian Under-19 team that won the World Cup in Malaysia in 2008. This team was led by Virat Kohli. He played his first ODI match against Sri Lanka on 8 February 2009. He scored 60 runs without being out in that game. His Test match debut came later, on 13 December 2012, against England.
In 2012, the Chennai Super Kings bought Jadeja for $2 million in the 2012 IPL Players Auction. He later played for the Gujarat Lions. In March 2017, he became the top-ranked bowler in the world in ICC Player Rankings. He was named captain of the Chennai Super Kings for the 2022 IPL season, taking over from MS Dhoni. However, he later stepped down during the season.

Early life
Ravindra Jadeja was born on 6 December 1988. His family is Gujarati Hindu Rajput from Navagam Ghed in Gujarat. His father worked as a watchman. His father wanted him to join the Army, but Ravindra loved Cricket.
Sadly, his mother passed away in an accident in 2005. This was a very tough time for him, and he almost stopped playing cricket. His sister, Naina, is a nurse. He lives in Jamnagar.
Cricket journey
Youth cricket
Jadeja started playing for India's Under-19 team when he was just 16 in 2005. He was part of the Indian team for the 2006 U/19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka. India finished second, and Jadeja did well, taking three wickets in the final.
He was the vice-captain of the Indian team that won the 2008 U/19 Cricket World Cup. He was very important with his bowling, taking 10 wickets in six games.
First-class cricket
Jadeja played his first first-class cricket match in 2006–07. He played for West Zone and for Saurashtra.
In 2012, Jadeja made history by becoming the first Indian player to score three triple centuries in first-class cricket. A triple century means scoring 300 runs or more in one game. He achieved this amazing feat at only 23 years old.
International career
Jadeja got noticed by national selectors because of his great performance in the 2008–09 Ranji Trophy. He took 42 wickets and scored 739 runs. This led to him being chosen for the ODI series in Sri Lanka.
He made his international debut on 8 February 2009, scoring 60 runs. In 2009, he took the place of another all-rounder, Yusuf Pathan, in the ODI team. He won a "man of the match" award in December 2009 for taking four wickets against Sri Lanka.
In 2012, Jadeja was named "Man of the Match" in a T20I game against Australia. This was mainly for his excellent fielding, where he helped run out two players.
He made his Test debut against England in Nagpur in December 2012. He bowled 70 overs and took 3 wickets. In an ODI against England in Kochi, he scored 61 runs off just 37 balls. He also took 2 wickets, helping India win and earning him another "Man of the Match" award.
In 2013, Jadeja took 24 wickets in a Test series against Australia. He was named "Man of the Match" in the final Test. He also played a big part in India winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. He took the most wickets in the tournament (12 wickets) and won the Golden Ball award. He was also part of the 'Team of the Tournament'.
In August 2013, the ICC ranked him as the No.1 bowler in ODI cricket. He was the first Indian bowler to reach this top spot since Anil Kumble in 1996.
On 20 July 2014, Jadeja scored his first Test fifty against England. He scored 68 runs from 57 balls, helping India save the match.
He was chosen for the 2015 Cricket World Cup. He took 9 wickets in 8 games. After this, he was dropped from the Indian team for a short time.
Jadeja came back strong in the 2015–16 Ranji season, taking 38 wickets and scoring 215 runs. These strong performances led to him being selected for the Indian Test team again. He helped his team win by taking 23 wickets in 4 games.
During Australia's Test tour of India in 2017, Jadeja played in all four Tests. He took 25 wickets and scored two half-centuries. He was named "player of the series" for his amazing performance. He and Ravichandran Ashwin became the first two spin bowlers to be jointly ranked number 1 in ICC Test Rankings.
On 5 October 2018, he scored his first century in Test matches. In March 2019, he became the third Indian cricketer to score 2,000 runs and take 150 wickets in ODIs. He was part of India's team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
In October 2019, he took his 200th wicket in Test cricket against South Africa. On 6 August 2021, he became the fifth Indian player to score 2,000 runs and take 200 wickets in Tests.
In September 2021, Jadeja was chosen for India's team for the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
On 5 March 2022, in a Test match against Sri Lanka, Jadeja scored an amazing 175 runs without being out. This was a record for an Indian player batting at number 7 or lower. He also took 9 wickets in the match, helping India win by a huge margin.
He scored his first century outside India during the 2022 Indian tour of England. In September 2022, he was chosen for the 2022 ICC Men's T20 World Cup but could not play due to a knee injury.
After five months of recovery, Jadeja returned to the Test team in February 2023. He took a Five-wicket haul in his first match back. He also became the fastest Indian to take 250 wickets and score 2500+ runs in Test Cricket.
In May 2024, he was selected for India's team for the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup tournament.
Indian Premier League
Ravindra Jadeja was picked by the Rajasthan Royals in 2008 for the first season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He played a big part in their victory that year. His captain, Shane Warne, called him a "superstar in the making" and nicknamed him "Rockstar."
He missed the 2010 IPL due to some contract issues. In 2011, he was bought by the Kochi Tuskers Kerala. In 2012, the Chennai Super Kings bought him for $2 million, making him the most expensive player in that year's auction. He won a "Man of the Match" award in his second game for Chennai Super Kings.
In 2015, during an IPL match, Jadeja bowled brilliantly against Rajasthan Royals, taking four wickets for only 11 runs.
In a match in 2021, Jadeja scored 62 runs without being out, including a record-tying 37 runs in one over! He also took 3 wickets in that game and was named "Man of the Match."
Jadeja became the captain for the Chennai Super Kings for the 2022 IPL season, taking over from MS Dhoni. However, he later gave the captaincy back to Dhoni during the season. He then had to leave the tournament due to a rib injury.
In the final of the 2023 Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings needed 10 runs from the last two balls. Jadeja hit a six and a four to win the title for his team!
Personal life
Jadeja married Rivaba Solanki, who is a politician, on 17 April 2016. They have a daughter who was born in June 2017.
