Reading is a town located in Schuyler County, New York, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,719 people lived there.
The Town of Reading is in the northern part of Schuyler County. It is located east of the village of Bath.

History of Reading
The first settlers arrived in the area around 1798. The very first tavern, a type of inn or public house, opened in 1801.
The town of Reading was officially formed in 1806. At that time, it was part of Steuben County. Later, in 1824, a part of Reading was used to create the Town of Starkey. Starkey is now in Yates County. In 1854, Reading became part of the new Schuyler County.
Geography of Reading
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town covers a total area of about 27.2 square miles (70.32 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
The northern border of the town is also the border of Yates County. Reading is located northwest of Watkins Glen.
New York State Route 14 is an important highway that runs north and south through the area. It goes alongside Seneca Lake, which forms the eastern edge of the town. Another road, New York State Route 14A, meets New York State Route 226 in the northwestern part of Reading, at a place called Coles Corners.
