Starkey is a small town located in Yates County, New York, in the United States. In 2010, about 3,573 people lived there. The town is in the southeastern part of Yates County. It is also south of the city of Geneva.

History of Starkey
Starkey may have been settled around the year 1798. However, a group of explorers from the Sullivan Expedition found a cabin already there in 1779. This cabin was located north of Glenora.
The town officially became part of Yates County in 1824. This was just one year after Yates County itself was created. Starkey was formed from a part of the town of Reading. Reading is now in Schuyler County.
Several historic buildings in Starkey are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the Thomas Bennett Curtis House and the William Swortz House. Also listed are the Crescent Methodist Episcopal Church and the John Noyes House. The Starkey United Methodist Church is on the list too. Finally, the Daniel Supplee Cobblestone Farmhouse and the Dr. Henry Spence Cobblestone Farmhouse and Barn Complex are also recognized.
Geography of Starkey
Starkey covers a total area of about 39.3 square miles (101.5 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 32.8 square miles (85.0 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 6.4 square miles (16.5 square kilometers), is water. This means water makes up about 16.40% of the town's total area.
The southern border of Starkey touches Schuyler County. Part of its eastern border also follows Schuyler County. The rest of the eastern border is along Seneca Lake. This lake forms the border with Seneca County. Starkey is located in the beautiful Finger Lakes Region of New York.
Two main roads, New York State Route 14 and New York State Route 14A, run north and south through the town.

Communities and Locations in Starkey
- Barnes Station – This is a small area near the southern border of the town. It is west of Rock Stream.
- Big Stream – This is an important stream in the county. It provided water power for the first settlers. It flows east into Seneca Lake.
- Dundee – This is a village located on NY-14A. It is in the western part of Starkey.
- Dundee Airport (D48) – This is a small airport for general aviation. It is located north of Dundee village.
- Eddytown – This is a historic spot north of Glenora. An early settler named William Eddy started a settlement here.
- Glenora – This is a small hamlet in the southeastern part of the town.
- Lakemont – This is another hamlet. It is located south of the Starkey hamlet.
- Rock Stream – This is a location near the southern town line. It is also the name of a stream in southern Starkey.
- Shannon Corners – This is a location northeast of Dundee village.
- Starkey – This is a hamlet located east of Dundee. It is found along NY-14.
