Redwood Valley is a small community in Mendocino County, California, United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area defined by the government for gathering information.
Redwood Valley is about 9 miles (14 km) north of Ukiah, which is the main city in the county. It sits at an elevation of 722 feet (220 meters) above sea level. The community is part of the northern Ukiah Valley.

History of Redwood Valley
This area was once called "Basil" by the railroad when it first arrived. Later, when a post office opened in 1920, the name was changed to "Redwood Valley."
A famous outlaw named Black Bart used to operate in the Redwood Valley area. He was known for robbing stagecoaches in the late 1800s.
Geography and Location
Redwood Valley is located in the eastern part of Mendocino County. It's near the start of the West Fork of the Russian River.
The community covers an area of about 2.7 square miles (7.0 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a very small part being water.
Local Industries and Economy
Redwood Valley is mainly a place where people live and where farming happens. The most important crop grown here is winegrapes. There are many vineyards and more than a dozen wineries in the area.
Every year on Father's Day, these wineries hold a special event called "A Taste of Redwood Valley." Visitors can come and try the local wines.
Schools in Redwood Valley
Students in Redwood Valley are part of the Ukiah Unified School District. Redwood Valley Elementary School closed in 2010. Now, younger students go to Calpella Elementary, and older elementary students attend Eagle Peak Middle School.
For high school, students from Redwood Valley go to Ukiah High School in Ukiah.
There's also the Redwood Valley Outdoor Education Project. This group helps elementary schools by providing fun, hands-on science lessons outdoors.
Deep Valley Christian School is another school in Redwood Valley. It teaches students from preschool all the way through high school. Eagle Peak Middle School, which focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), is also located here.
Other Interesting Places
Redwood Valley is home to two Native American reservations: the Redwood Valley Rancheria and the Coyote Valley Reservation. These are lands belonging to the native Pomo people.
Two monasteries, Abhayagiri Monastery and Holy Transfiguration Monastery, are also found at the northern end of Redwood Valley. These are places where monks live and practice their spiritual beliefs.
