Playing career 1916–1933

Edward Reginald Noble (born June 23, 1895 – died January 19, 1962) was a Canadian professional ice hockey player. He was from Collingwood, Ontario. Reg Noble played as a forward for 17 seasons. He played in both the National Hockey Association (NHA) and the National Hockey League (NHL).

He played for several teams, including the Toronto Blueshirts, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto St. Patricks, Montreal Maroons, and the Detroit Red Wings. Reg Noble won the Stanley Cup three times. He won it with Toronto and Montreal teams. In 1962, he was added to the Hockey Hall of Fame. He was also the last player still active in the NHL who had played in the league's very first season in 1917–18.

Reg Noble's Hockey Career

Reg Noble started his professional hockey career in 1916. He first played for the Toronto Blueshirts in the NHA. Later that season, he also played for the Montreal Canadiens.

When the NHL began in 1917, Reg joined the Toronto Arenas. He was a key player for them. In the 1917–18 season, he scored 30 goals and 10 assists. This helped the Arenas win the first-ever Stanley Cup in NHL history.

Playing for the St. Pats

The Toronto Arenas team later changed its name to the Toronto St. Patricks. Reg Noble continued to be a star player for them. In the 1921–22 season, he helped the St. Pats win another Stanley Cup. This was his second championship.

He played for the St. Pats until 1924. He was known for his strong play and scoring ability.

Moving to Montreal and Detroit

In 1924, Reg Noble was traded to the Montreal Maroons. He quickly became an important part of their team. In the 1925–26 season, he helped the Maroons win the Stanley Cup. This was his third and final championship.

After playing for the Maroons, Reg moved to the Detroit Cougars in 1927. The team later changed its name to the Detroit Falcons and then the Detroit Red Wings. He played several seasons in Detroit. He was a veteran leader on these teams.

Reg Noble played his last NHL games in the 1932–33 season. He finished his long and successful career having played over 500 NHL games. He scored 167 goals and had 97 assists in the NHL.

Awards and Achievements

Reg Noble achieved many great things during his hockey career:

  • 1914–15 - OHA-Jr. First All-Star Team (This means he was one of the best junior players in Ontario.)
  • 1918 - Stanley Cup championship with the Toronto Arenas
  • 1922 - Stanley Cup championship with the Toronto St. Patricks
  • 1926 - Stanley Cup championship with the Montreal Maroons
