College Basketball Career
Reggie Evans started his college basketball journey at Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kansas, from 1998 to 2000. After that, he moved to the University of Iowa.
In 2001, Reggie was amazing at getting free throws and achieving double-doubles (meaning he got double-digit numbers in two different stats, like points and rebounds, in one game). He was also the top rebounder in the Big Ten Conference in both 2001 and 2002. He was even named the Big Ten Tournament's Most Outstanding Player in 2001.
Professional Basketball Career
Playing for the Seattle SuperSonics (2002–2006)
Reggie Evans joined the Seattle SuperSonics in 2002. He quickly became known for his incredible rebounding skills. In the 2004–05 season, he was the best in the league at getting rebounds for every minute he played. Even though he played less than 24 minutes per game, he still finished ninth in the entire NBA for total rebounds.
One study in 2005 showed that Reggie would grab about one-quarter of all missed shots when he was on the court. This showed how good he was at getting the ball back for his team.
Reggie's best season with the Sonics ended when the team changed coaches in January 2006. Under the new coach, Reggie played fewer minutes and lost his starting spot.
Time with the Denver Nuggets (2006–2007)
In February 2006, Reggie was traded to the Denver Nuggets. He immediately started playing more minutes with his new team.
On March 10, 2006, Reggie had an amazing game against the Toronto Raptors. He scored zero points but grabbed 20 rebounds! This was a rare achievement, as it was the first time a player had 20 rebounds in a scoreless game since Dennis Rodman did it in 1997.
During a game in 2006, Reggie was involved in a controversial incident with Los Angeles Clippers player Chris Kaman. Reggie was fined $10,000 and given a flagrant foul for his actions.
Joining the Philadelphia 76ers (2007–2009)
In September 2007, Reggie was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. He became the starting power forward for the team in the 2007–08 NBA season.
Reggie helped the Sixers become a much better rebounding team. He played almost every game that season and started more games than he had in his two years with Denver. During the playoffs, Philadelphia fans cheered "Reg-gie! Reg-gie!" for him.
With the Toronto Raptors (2009–2011)
In June 2009, Reggie was traded to the Toronto Raptors. He started the season with a foot injury and didn't play until February 2010.
On November 24, 2010, Reggie had a career-high 22 rebounds, along with 12 points, in a win against his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers.
Playing for the Los Angeles Clippers (2011–2012)
Reggie signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers in December 2011. He quickly became a fan favorite because of his tough and physical style of play. He averaged 1.9 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in 56 games.
Time with the Brooklyn Nets (2012–2014)
In July 2012, Reggie was traded to the Brooklyn Nets. He became the first NBA player to be fined for flopping (pretending to be fouled to get a referee's call) in November 2012.
When his teammate Kris Humphries was injured, Reggie got a chance to start games. He played so well that he stayed in the starting lineup even after Humphries returned. On March 27, 2013, Reggie had an amazing game against the Portland Trail Blazers, scoring a career-high 22 points and grabbing 26 rebounds! Two days later, he had another great game with 15 points and 16 rebounds. In his first season with the Nets, Reggie averaged over 10 rebounds per game, with 11.1.
Moving to the Sacramento Kings (2014–2015)
In February 2014, Reggie was traded to the Sacramento Kings.
Even though he didn't play much at the start of the 2014–15 season, Reggie stepped up when the Kings' star player, DeMarcus Cousins, was out. In a game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Reggie scored 17 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in 35 minutes off the bench. He helped his team get back into the game, showing his strong rebounding skills once again.
Reggie's last NBA game was on April 10, 2015.
BIG3 Basketball League
After his NBA career, Reggie Evans joined the BIG3 basketball league in 2017. He played for the Killer 3's team alongside famous players like Chauncey Billups and Stephen Jackson. In 2018, he moved to the 3 Headed Monsters team, playing with Rashard Lewis and coached by Gary Payton.
