History of Remer
A post office opened in Remer in 1904. The city got its name from its very first postmaster, William P. Remer.
Remer is also home to the Thunder Lake Lodge. A famous person named Al Capone used to stay there for his vacations. He stayed in a room called McCleary Cabin, which was built in 1912.
During World War II, there was a logging camp near Remer. People who were prisoners during the war worked at this camp. It was located where an old CCC camp used to be.
Until 1959, the Soo Line offered train rides for people at the Remer station.
Bigfoot Sightings and Celebrations
Remer is known as the "Home of Bigfoot." People in the town say they have seen Bigfoot since the late 1800s. In 2009, a camera even took a picture of something some people think was Bigfoot near Remer!
Every summer, Remer holds a special event called Bigfoot Days. It's a celebration of these mysterious sightings. A video series called All Gas No Brakes even filmed the 2020 festival.
