Hudson Township is in the western part of Mackinac County. It sits right on the northern shore of Lake Michigan, one of the Great Lakes.

The township shares its borders with other townships. To the east, you'll find Hendricks Township. To the west is Garfield Township. Both of these are also in Mackinac County.

To the north, Hudson Township touches Pentland Township in Luce County. A small part of its northeast corner borders Hulbert Township in Chippewa County.

  • U.S. Route 2 shield
    U.S. Route 2 is a major highway that runs east to west. It follows the beautiful Lake Michigan coastline along the southern edge of the township.
  • H-40 shield
    County Highway H-40 is also known as Hiawatha Trail. This road goes east to west right through the middle of the township.

Communities in Hudson Township

There are a couple of small, unincorporated communities within Hudson Township. An unincorporated community is a place where people live together but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or village.

Garnet

Garnet is one of these communities. It started as a stop on a railway line back in 1891 and was first called Welch. A small settlement grew around a sawmill and a general store. The name was changed to Garnet in 1904. It used to have a post office, but that closed in 1972.

Rexton

Rexton is another unincorporated community in the township. It was once the main office for a lumber company. People say it was named after the king of England because Canadian bankers helped pay for the railroad to be built through here. Rexton also had a post office, which opened in 1901 but closed in 1961.
