History of Rhine
A post office was opened in Rhine in 1890. The town was named after the famous Rhine river in Germany. Many of the first people who settled here came from Germany. The government of Georgia officially made Rhine a town in 1891.
Where is Rhine Located?
Rhine is in the southern part of Dodge County. You can find it at these coordinates: 31°59′23″N 83°11′56″W / 31.98972°N 83.19889°W.
Roads and Travel
U.S. Route 280 goes right through Rhine. If you go west on this road for about 6 miles, you'll reach Abbeville. Going east for 8 miles will take you to Milan.
Georgia State Route 117 also crosses US 280 in the middle of Rhine. This road goes north about 15 miles to Eastman, which is the main town in Dodge County. If you go southeast on State Route 117 for 19 miles, you'll get to Jacksonville, Georgia.
Another road, State Route 165, starts from State Route 117 in the northern part of Rhine. It goes northeast for about 11 miles to Chauncey.
