The Rhinella spinulosa is a type of toad found in South America. It belongs to the true toad family, called Bufonidae. You can find this toad in the Andes Mountains. Its home countries include Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, and Peru.
Where This Toad Lives
The Rhinella spinulosa lives in many different places. It can be found from sea level all the way up to 5,100 meters (about 16,700 feet) high. That's really high up in the mountains!
This toad likes various habitats. It lives in scrubland and grassland areas in the Andes. In the southern parts of its range, it also lives in forests. Sometimes, you can even find it in farm areas.
Reproduction and Life Cycle
The Rhinella spinulosa needs water to lay its eggs. It breeds in different kinds of watery spots. These include temporary ponds, which are small pools that dry up sometimes. It also uses altiplano lagoons, which are lakes found in high mountain plains. Slow-moving streams are another favorite breeding spot.
When this toad is found in an area, there are usually many of them. This means they are quite common in their habitats.
