Rhoemetalces III was a king of the Thracians, an ancient people. He was the son of another king, Rhescuporis II.
Rhoemetalces III ruled Thrace with his cousin and wife, Pythodoris II. They were "client rulers," which means they governed Thrace but were under the control of the powerful Roman Empire. They ruled from 38 AD to 46 AD. They took over from Pythodoris's mother, Tryphaena, and her brother, Rhoemetalces II.
Rhoemetalces III died in 46 AD. After his death, Thrace became a full province of the Roman Empire. We don't know what happened to Pythodoris II after this time.
A Place Named After Him
There is a place named after Rhoemetalces III far away from Thrace. Remetalk Point is a piece of land on Livingston Island in Antarctica.
