Early Life and High School
Riall Johnson grew up in Lynnwood, Washington, USA. He went to Mariner High School. While there, he was a very talented football player. Many people thought he was one of the best young football players in the country!
College Football Career
Riall went to Stanford University for college. He was an amazing player there! In his third year, he was tied for the most "sacks" in the Pac-10 conference with 13. A "sack" happens when a defensive player tackles the opposing team's quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.
In his final year, he was again the top player in the Pac-10 for sacks. He even tied for the most sacks in the whole country with Julius Peppers, who later became a famous player. Riall was the first player ever to lead the Pac-10 in sacks for two years in a row!
Professional Football Career
Even with all his success in college, Riall was picked in the sixth round of the 2001 NFL draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. This means 167 other players were chosen before him. He played for the Bengals for three years. During that time, he played in 32 games and made 30 tackles. Most of these tackles were on "special teams," which are groups of players who play during kickoffs and punts.
After playing for the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League (CFL), Riall was traded to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2009. Later that same year, he was traded again to the Montreal Alouettes.
