Richard LeParmentier (born July 16, 1946 – died April 15, 2013) was an American actor. He lived and worked mostly in the United Kingdom. He is best known for playing Admiral Motti in the movie Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977). He also played the police officer Lt. Santino in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988).

Early Life and Moving to the UK
Richard LeParmentier was born on July 16, 1946, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in the United States. He grew up on a dairy farm. His father was from the island of Guernsey, and his mother was from County Mayo in Ireland.
When he was a teenager, LeParmentier lived in Hollywood, Florida. His drama teacher at school suggested he become a professional actor. He studied drama at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. In 1974, he moved to the United Kingdom to continue his acting career.

Richard LeParmentier started his film career in 1974. His first movie role was as a lawyer named Felix Hoffman in Stardust. The next year, he appeared in the movie Rollerball. He also acted in many British TV shows.
Playing Admiral Motti in Star Wars
His most famous role was Admiral Motti in Star Wars (1977). In this movie, Admiral Motti is an arrogant officer who is choked by Darth Vader. This happens after Vader finds Motti's "lack of faith disturbing." This scene helped show how powerful and scary Darth Vader was. It also showed how proud and mean the Empire's officers could be.
LeParmentier actually tried out for the role of Han Solo, one of the main characters in Star Wars. He was also offered a small role as a customs officer, but he thought it was too small. Later, the director George Lucas offered him the part of Admiral Motti, which he took.
Other Notable Roles
LeParmentier had a small role in Superman II (1980). His wife at the time, Sarah Douglas, also appeared in that movie. He was also in the James Bond film Octopussy (1983).
Another important role for him was Lieutenant Santino in Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988). This movie mixed live actors with cartoon characters.
Writing and Later Work
After 1992, LeParmentier focused more on writing and producing. He wrote for British TV shows like The Bill and Boon. He also started his own production company called Three Rivers Productions in 2008.
Richard LeParmentier became a regular guest at Star Wars and science-fiction conventions. He even appeared in an online commercial for the 2012 video game Kinect Star Wars. In the commercial, he re-created his famous scene from Star Wars. Before he passed away, he was working on a parody film called Motti Now.

From 1981 to 1984, Richard LeParmentier was married to British actress Sarah Douglas. She is known for playing Ursa in the Superman movies. They appeared in several films together.
LeParmentier later married Cheryl Le Parmentier. They had three children together: Rhiannon, Stephanie, and Tyrone.
Richard LeParmentier lived in Bath, Somerset, England. He passed away suddenly on April 15, 2013, at the age of 66. He was visiting his family in Austin, Texas, United States at the time.
