Eric Daniel Brunson (born June 14, 1972) is an American basketball coach and former player. He is currently an assistant coach for the New York Knicks in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Rick Brunson played nine seasons in the NBA. He also worked as an assistant coach for several other teams. Brunson played college basketball for the Temple Owls.

Rick Brunson's Playing Career
Rick Brunson was born in Syracuse, New York. He went to Salem High School. In 1991, he was named a McDonald's All-American. This is a special honor for top high school basketball players.
Early Professional Basketball
After graduating from Temple University, Rick Brunson was not chosen in the 1995 NBA draft. However, he still started his professional career. He played for the Adelaide 36ers in Australia during the 1995–96 season. He was even named the team's Most Valuable Player (MVP) that year.
Playing in the NBA
Brunson then played in the CBA. He later signed with the Portland Trail Blazers in 1997. He joined the New York Knicks and was part of the team that won the Eastern Conference championship in 1999. He played for several NBA teams throughout his career. These included the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Clippers, Seattle SuperSonics, and Houston Rockets.
Career Highlights
His best season was with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2004–05. He averaged 5.5 points per game, which was his highest. Rick Brunson played his ninth and final NBA season with the Houston Rockets in 2006.
Rick Brunson's Coaching Career
After his playing career, Rick Brunson became a basketball coach. He started as an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets from January to April 2007. His main focus was helping players improve their skills.
College and NBA Coaching Roles
From 2007 to 2009, he worked at the University of Virginia. He was the director of basketball operations for the Cavaliers. In May 2009, Brunson became an assistant coach for the Hartford Hawks men's basketball team. He then joined the Chicago Bulls as an assistant coach in September 2010. During the 2012–13 season, he was an assistant coach for the Charlotte Bobcats.
Recent Coaching Positions
In September 2016, Brunson was hired by the Minnesota Timberwolves as an assistant coach. He later coached at Camden High School in Camden, New Jersey. He was the head coach for Dajuan Wagner Jr.. In June 2022, Rick Brunson returned to the New York Knicks. He is currently an assistant coach for the team.
Rick Brunson's Family Life
Rick Brunson met his wife, Sandra, at Temple University. Rick played for the basketball team, and Sandra played volleyball. They have two children, Jalen and Erica.
Jalen Brunson's Basketball Journey
Their son, Jalen, was born in 1996. The family lived in Cherry Hill, New Jersey for many years. They later moved to Lincolnshire, Illinois, in 2010. Jalen played high school basketball at Adlai E. Stevenson High School. He was a very successful high school player.
Jalen was named the Illinois Boys' Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year in 2014 and 2015. He was also chosen for the 2015 McDonald's All-American Boys Game. Jalen led his team to win the 2015 Illinois High School Association Class 4A championship. After high school, Jalen played college basketball for Villanova. He is now a player for the New York Knicks in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
