Riesel is a small city in McLennan County, Texas, United States. In 2020, about 1,062 people lived there. This was a small increase from the 1,007 people counted in 2010. Riesel is part of the larger Waco area.
History of Riesel
Riesel, Texas, is named after W.H. Riesel. He was one of the first people to settle here. He built a Cotton gin in the area. A cotton gin is a machine that quickly separates cotton fibers from their seeds.
The town started growing around 1880 to 1890. Except for a short time between 1930 and 1950, Riesel's population has kept growing. Today, more than 1,000 people call Riesel home.
A new power plant helped the city get more money. In 2010, people in Riesel voted to approve $25 million for the Riesel Independent School District. This money helped build a new high school, an administration building, and new sports fields.
Before it was called Riesel, the town had other names. It was first known as Roddy. Later, it was called Prospect.
