Rijssen-Holten is a municipality in the eastern part of the Netherlands. It is located in the province of Overijssel. The name is pronounced something like "RYE-sen HOL-ten".
This municipality was created in 2001. It was formed by joining two smaller areas: Holten and Rijssen. The Holten area is part of a region called Salland. The Rijssen area belongs to the region known as Twente.

Rijssen-Holten is made up of several towns and villages. The two largest places are Holten and Rijssen. These are the only ones with more than 500 people living in them.
Other smaller places in the municipality include:

- Dijkerhoek (about 2 km west of Holten)

Getting Around
Both Holten and Rijssen are easy to reach by car. The A1 motorway is very close by. This major road connects Amsterdam in the Netherlands to Berlin in Germany.
Amsterdam is about 110 kilometers (68 miles) away from Holten. Rijssen is a little further east, about 7 kilometers (4 miles) from Holten.
Famous People from Rijssen-Holten
Many interesting people have come from the Rijssen-Holten area.
- Johann Geusendam (1886–1945) was born in Rijssen. He was a political activist.
- Bert Haanstra (1916–1997) was born in Espelo. He became a famous Dutch director who made films and documentaries.
- Jan Baan (born 1946) is an entrepreneur and investor from Rijssen.
- Wolter Wierbos (born 1957) is a jazz trombonist from Holten.
Sports Stars
The area has also produced some well-known sports figures.
- Jan Wegereef (born 1962) from Rijssen became a football referee for Dutch and international matches.
- Eric Braamhaar (born 1966) also from Rijssen, was another Dutch and FIFA football referee.
- Mark Tuitert (born 1980) from Holten is a speed skater. He won a gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
