Rineloricaria eigenmanni is a type of catfish that lives in fresh water. It belongs to a group of fish called Loricariidae, which are also known as armored catfish because they have bony plates on their bodies. This fish is native to South America. It is found in countries like Venezuela and Colombia.

This interesting fish can grow up to about 10.2 centimeters (4 inches) long. This measurement is called its standard length, which means it's measured from the tip of its nose to the base of its tail fin. Rineloricaria eigenmanni is also special because it can breathe air! It's known as a facultative air-breather, meaning it can breathe air when it needs to, like if the water doesn't have enough oxygen.

Where It Lives

This catfish is found in South America. Its home includes areas near Sarare in Venezuela. You can also find it in the large Orinoco River system. The Orinoco River flows through both Venezuela and Colombia. These fish usually live in rivers and streams, often hiding among rocks or plants.

In Aquariums

Rineloricaria eigenmanni is a popular fish for home aquariums. People who keep fish sometimes call it the common whiptail catfish. This name comes from its long, thin tail, which looks a bit like a whip. It's liked by fish keepers because it's peaceful and can help keep the tank clean by eating algae.
